0x80070422 Error Fixed: Turn On Windows Update Service the Right Way
The 0x80070422 error (ERRORSERVICEDISABLED) appears when the Windows Update service is turned off. To fix it, open services.msc, double-click Windows Update, set Startup type to Automatic, click Start, and press OK to save. Then restart your PC and check for updates again.
Steps
1. Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
2. Scroll down and double-click Windows Update.
3. Change Startup type to Automatic, then click Apply.
4. Click Start under Service status, then click OK.
5. Open Background Intelligent Transfer Service and do the same.
6. Restart your PC and click Check for updates in Settings.
Common Problems
Start button is greyed out: Click Apply first, then the Start button becomes active.
Service starts, then stops by itself: Run sfc /scannow in Command Prompt as administrator and restart your PC.
